Pock Town Council Clerk Misleads

In the Pocklington Provincial Ward there are seven Clerks for each Parish/Town council and three ERYC Ward members. I am very disappointed to report of the misleading communication from one of these, the Pocklington Town Council Clerk, Gordon Scaife.

Why did Gordon correct his original misleading response? I do not believe it to be appropriate for there to be misleading communication between a Town Clerk and a Ward member.

In the public interest I publish the full exchange.

Subject: PTC Info Request

Dear Gordon,

Could you please inform me of the various “committees”, “groups” etc PTC have?

In addition ,could you please forward links to the minutes for each “committee” for the current and past financial year? If they are not on the PTC website could you please forward in electronic format?

With regards the councillor vacancies, could you please inform me of the minimum requirement a new councillor would have to fulfil in their role as a PTC councillor?

Dear Cllr Strangeway,

The information for the different committees and sub-committees is on the website along with the minutes and agendas for the meetings.  These are in the Town Council area of the website.

The minimum requirements that the Town Council expects is for Councillors to attend the 12 Full Council meetings and any of the sub-committees that the Councillor sits on.  The Council also expects Councillors to assist with organising events and consultations.  These are currently Summer Fair, Bonfire Night, Christmas Festival and Remembrance Day Parade.  In addition there are two town meetings and two civic events (Mayor Making and the Civic Service).

I hope that helps.

Dear Gordon,

Unfortunately I am still unable to locate the information regards the committees. Could you please forward links?

You will appreciate that I am requesting to be informed of the minimum requirements not what the “Town Council expects”. Could you please inform me of the minimum requirements?

With regards what the “Town Council expects” could you please forward me either the minutes or standing order where this is stated?

Dear Cllr Strangeway,

You will find minutes for all the meetings for 2016 on the website under Council meetings. Link below.

The document below produced by NALC is a good guide in how to be in councillor.

What the Council expects of a councillor and the minimum would be to attend the full council meetings (one every six months).  The national guidance is that Councillors have to attend a meeting once every 6 months.
