Council Tax Hikes For Social Care Funding Gap

Theresa May is this week expected to support council tax increases designed to plug the funding gap in social care costs. Having previously opposed the tax hike, the Prime Minister is understood to have bowed to pressure from Conservative ministers and MPs concerned about the scale of the problem.

Chancellor Philip Hammond was reportedly blocked from addressing social care in his autumn statement last month, having held a desire to announce bigger rises in local authority precepts. The Government will now look at ways of allowing councils to increase the precepts at a faster pace.

National Conservatives will pass taxation to ERYC Conservatives to push through. Any raise in your Council Tax bill is a Conservative raise.
