It never ceases to amaze me how those in public office fail to have the most basic knowledge of fundamental legislation. An example of this is the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
In my post PTC Forced To Make Emergency Plan Public I informed residents that
“Thanks to a FOI request from New Zealand I can now confirm that PTC will be forced to make the Emergency Plan public.”
Request For Clarification
A resident requested clarification to a statement on Facebook by Pocklington Town Council (PTC) Councillor Martin Cooper:
“No FOI from New Zealand has forced PTC to do anything, that is not factual”
In essence, the act creates a general right of access, on request, to information held by public authorities. This includes PTC.
Contrary what Councillor Cooper states the FOI request to PTC from New Zealand will force PTC to make the Emergency Plan public. All responses under FOI are in the public domain.
