Electric Charging Points Coming To Pocklington

I am delighted to announce that electric vehicle charging points will soon be coming to Pocklington.

“The Council currently manages electric vehicle charging points at the following locations:

  • Palace Car Park, Bridlington
  • Swinegate Car Park, Hessle
  • Hessle Town Hall

A further point will be installed in Driffield town centre in the coming months.

These points were funded through our Local Transport Plan (LTP).  These Council charging points complement the wider network of points installed by local businesses and personal charging points at residential addresses.

We have been extremely encouraged by use of the points since they have been installed. In light of this, and the government’s recent announcement that the sale of new diesel and petrol vehicles will be banned from 2040, we are now considering locations for additional EV charging points as part of our next LTP Implementation Plan, which starts in April 2018.

The need to encourage EV use is included within our current LTP. As part of the next LTP Implementation Plan we are developing a stand-alone strategy for EVs, including further consideration of new charging infrastructure. This will be circulated to Ward members for comment before it is finalised.

Pocklington is already on our list of potential locations for new EV points. These would provide good geographic coverage between the existing points in Driffield and York, and might encourage tourists with EVs staying in York to travel in to the East Riding and visit Pocklington.

Any new points won’t be installed until after April 2018 but I will keep you updated on the prioritisation process.”

Well done ERYC
