ERYC are proclaiming how wonderful the new superfast Broadband is. Dont believe all the myth.
As part of my elected duties I sit on the Pension Committee and the Environment and Regeneration Overview and Scrutiny Committee.
On Wednesday, at the Environment and Regeneration Overview and Scrutiny Committee, the following was discussed:
- Petitions x 3
- Rural Communities and Businesses
- Rural Broadband and Mobile Phone Coverage
- Flood and Coastal Risk Management and Strategy
- Coastal Change Management
In Rural Broadband and Mobile Phone Coverage I raised the issue that fibre will only go to the cabinets NOT to individual homes. I believe this will be detrimental to the economic development of the East Riding economy moving forward.
I enquired if there was an option for residents to pay BT to connect fibre from the cabinet to their homes.
It was confirmed that there is no such option.
I conclude that ERYC are currently financing a fundamentally flawed Broadband network.
