At todays ERYC Council meeting I fully supported a motion by Councillor Fraser as it appeared to be anti fracking.
But alas I was mistaken as Councillor Fraser informed everyone that the motion was neither pro nor anti fracking. Yet he and hence the Tory party today put a motion before Council to ask:
“the Secretary of State to show total transparency and revise the planning and permitting system relating to ‘fracking’ to enable local authorities to challenge rather than assume that safeguards are in place.”
I pointed out that the Conservatives are the only major party to support fracking. Indeed the last Tory manifesto committed the party to a change in the planning laws in support of the shale gas industry.
Councillor Fraser stated this was a rant.
False. The Tories did change the planning laws in support of fracking which the East Riding Tories now want their Secretary of State to “revise the planning and permitting system relating to fracking”.
Councillor Owen stated we have little direct influence on the issue.
False. 48 ERYC Tories campaigned for a Tory manifesto which committed the party to a change in the planning laws in support of the shale gas industry.
ERYC Tories need to decide whether they are pro or anti fracking or perhaps they are both when it suits them.
All Councillors supported the motion.
